Firestone Walker Parabola

From Firestone Walker – Parabola has been a major component of past anniversary blends and is one of our most aggressive offerings.  This beer features bold bourbon and tobacco aromas and a rich dark chocolate, charred oak flavor. Parabola is best enjoyed in moderation and is a perfect beer to pair with those chocolate dessert favs.

Firestone Walker – Firestone Walker Parabola – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 13 % abv. Purchased at Firestone Walker Brewery

Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with a thin tan cap of froth. This beer is very viscous and leaves behind decent legs.

Aroma: Dark chocolate, raisin, bourbon, huge oak, burnt roast,black cherry.

Taste: A mixture of dark chocolate and bourbon right away, and as I taste in most bourbon barrel imperials, graham cracker and vanilla. As I dive in deeper, I get very pronounced wood notes, sharp burnt roast finishing with black coffee and spicy hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Like thick silky pudding or mousse. The booze gives it a very warm coating mouthfeel.

Overall: Another amazing big beer from Firestone Walker.  The hype on this was modest, and believe it or not, the price tag is spot on.   I thought with it being a blend of former batches of Parabola, this would be less spicy and warm than it was. I enjoyed as is. but if you like your bourbon barrel beers a little more subdued, I’d recommend giving this 4-6 months before cracking.
