Epic Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout
From Epic Brewing – This delicious coffee/chocolate nib laced beer shows slight hints of whiskey from the barrel aging. Pours an almost pitch black with auburn highlights. It has hints of dark chocolate, bourbon, dark fruits, and vanilla oak. This beer is certainly going to keep you warm on a cold winter night.
Epic Brewing – Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout (Batch 4) – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. 11.1% abv.
Appearance: Pours dark brown with a tan pinstripe of head. Looks thick.
Aroma: Cold black coffee, sugar faint whiskey.
Taste: Coffee, dark chocolate. Some char and tanins. Finishes burnt bitter with a little alcohol.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with creamy carbonation.
Overall: Pretty solid, but the coffee dominated the barrel/booze character to the point that I worked hard to find it. I’m not sure on how long it rested in the barrel, but I’d love to try it after a longer duration.
