Bear Republic Racer X
From Bear Republic – Racer X is a bold ale that follows English brewing traditions, but with a California twist. A double IPA with bold hops and a balanced finish, Racer 5’s big brother. There are 5+ pounds of hops per barrel!
Bear Republic Brewing – Bear Republic Racer X – On tap at Stone 15th Anniversary Celebration – 8.9% abv.
Appearance: Pours a fairly clear amber with white swirls atop.
Aroma: Grapefruit, tangerine and sweet spicy malt.
Taste: Big bitter astringent hops, tropical fruits and fairly dry malt.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with average carbonation.
Overall: I’ve been wanting to try this for years. Luckily Stone poured it at their 15th Brewers Reception. I’ve now gotten a handful of different Double IPAs from Bear Republic under my belt, and I must say, they all taste great, but I can’t tell the difference between them. With that said, if you got to try say, Apex, you are pretty close, in my opinion to have tried Racer X. I’d love to do a side by side, knowing there are in fact differences.
