AleSmith Barrel Aged Speedway Stout 2009
AleSmith Brewing – AleSmith Barrel Aged Speedway Stout Vintage 2009 – Enjoyed in 2011 – 750 ml. bottle poured into a goblet. 12% abv.
Appearance: Pours a thick dark brown with a creamy tan ring of froth.
Aroma: Wood, Honey Smacks, strong bourbon, medium roasted coffee. Weaving in and out of any of these glorious aromas is alcohol.
Taste: Coffee, booze soaked barrel, dark roasted malt, burnt roasted malt. Finishes heavy on the bourbon.
Mouthfeel: Astringent, low carbonation, and very thick.
Overall: A world class Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout. This is one of the more bourbon forward barrel aged beers I’ve had in a while, lots of wood and spirts to combat the huge malt and coffee profile. I spent over an hour trying to put my finger on all that is going on with this beer.
