Alaskan Heritage Coffee Brown
Alaskan Brewing Company teamed up with Juneau-based Heritage Coffee Roasting Co. to craft a new beer that accentuates the richness of coffee and the smoothness of premium malts. The result is Alaskan Heritage Coffee Brown Ale, the latest of the Pilot Series of beers, available starting in October in 22-ounce bombers and on draft in the 17 states where Alaskan Brewing is distributed.
Alaskan Brewing – Alaskan Heritage Coffee Brown – 22 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. – 7% abv.
Appearance: Pours a very dark yet clear amber. The khaki head falls to a nice frothy cap.
Aroma: Delicious coffee. Almost like sticking your nose in a bag of fresh roasted beans. A little sugary sweetness as well. Mocha.
Taste: Cold brewed coffee, toasty malt. Low but present hop spice.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied. Prickly.
Overall: This was so well done. I would almost guess the color of the beer came from the cold steeped coffee and not the malt, but who knows for sure. Brown Ales have never been high on my list, but this was so delicious. This is in good company with beers like DayMan and Naughty Sauce.
