Twisted Pine Bough Breaker Wins Silver At Colorado State Fair
Twisted Pine Adds to its Trophy Case – Bough Breaker awarded silver medal at 2011 Colorado State Fair
Boulder, Colorado – For the second straight year, Twisted Pine Brewing Company has come away from the Colorado State Fair a big winner, and the brewers there have one of their increasingly successful seasonal offerings to thank once again. Judges for the event acknowledged Bough Breaker, an American-style barleywine released in July to commemorate the brewery’s 16th anniversary, in the Strong Ale category where it took home the silver medal.
This feat marks consecutive years in which Twisted Pine has collected hardware for the premier release of a seasonal beer. In 2010, Le Petit Saison grabbed a bronze shortly after its introduction to the brewery’s lineup, and long-running winter seasonal Northstar Imperial Porter garnered gold in the Porter category. Somewhat surprisingly, Bough Breaker was the only representative of beer-rich Boulder to find its way into the winner’s circle at this year’s state fair. “It’s a satisfying feeling to be recognized and rewarded for all of our hard work,” declared brewer Justin Tilotta, who added that the staff at Twisted Pine does not consider the journey of the bittersweet, 9%ABV and 120IBU barleywine complete just yet. “Hopefully we can build on our recent success and add some more metal to the wall in our ale house before the year’s up.” The beer is also slated to compete at this year’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver, as well as in November’s European Beer Star competition in Nuremburg and the 10th annual Walk the Line on Barleywine Festival, held early December in Dunedin, Florida.
The next reissue of Twisted Pine’s well-decorated Northstar Imperial Porter will be released to the public in November, when the brewery holds its annual vertical tasting of the acclaimed winter seasonal. In the meantime, Mr. Brown’s Pumpkin Ale will be on tap at their ale house later this month and Pearl St. Porter will be available across Colorado in October. Next year, fans of Twisted Pine’s seasonal ales will receive an extra special treat in the form of the Artisan Ale Project, featuring 12 new recipes that will each be released in 22oz bottles adorned with work from local artists.
