Tröegs News for Holiday Season 2010
Here are a few interesting news pieces from Troegs latest newsletter, Troegs Tales. Items included are Mad Elf and Scratch # 38 info. Enjoy!
Mad Elf: Final Transmission for 2010
As you read this we are happy to say that Mad Elf packaging is complete for 2010. Even without additional fermentation tanks we were able to increase our Mad Elf production which makes our wholesalers, and ultimately, our customers happy.
Every year, we recommend that you buy early. We regularly receive frantic phone calls just days before Christmas when Mad Elf is typically gone. So, if you really want the beer pick it up when there is plenty available.
Due to federal regulations, Tröegs Brewery CANNOT ship Mad Elf in the mail.
The Mad Elf is also available at the Brewery Giftshop/Tasting Room by the case, six-pack, 101-ounce bottle, gift pack and growler.
ISO: Tröegs Ticket and Classic Mad Elf Labels!
Starting next week an extremely limited number of Mad Elf cases will be shipped randomly to beer distributors in our home state. The purchaser of these cases will have the opportunity to be one of the first people to see the new Tröegs Brewery in Hershey when we open in the fall 2011.
So how do you know if you bought the special case? There are no markings on the outside of the case but once you open it two things will make the case special – there will be an envelope taped to the lid of case containing a Troegs Ticket and 12 of the bottles will adorn our classic Mad Elf logo.
If you get one of these special cases, read the Tröegs Ticket, follow the directions and keep one of those special bottles, as you will need it, along with the ticket, to get a special behind-the-scenes tour of the brewery next fall from the Tröegs brothers.
Scratch Update: #37 Available and a Black Friday Sneak Peak
Some recent Scratch releases (Citra of Brotherly Love and Fresh Hop Ale) have everyone here at the brewery thinking of sweet, sticky hops and the goodness they impart in beer. With that in mind, our focus for the next four Scratch beers will be copious amounts of hops.
Scratch #37 is now available. Here are the details:
OG: 17.7
ABV: 7.7%
Malt: Pils, Munich
IBU: 85
Hops: Warrior, Cluster, Columbus
Yeast: House Ale
Codename: IPA #1 of 4
Scratch #37 features Warrior and Cluster hops with a touch of Columbus. It pours a bright gold with a white cap and soft carbonation. Ripe fruits are present on the nose, and continue in the taste giving a lush, tropical papaya-like flavor. This ample bitterness is offset by sweet Munich malt that lingers through each taste. Enjoy our latest IPA foray, and stay tuned for future experiments in the style. Research has rarely been so rewarding.
In other Scratch news, join us Friday, November 26, at 2 p.m. for a sneak preview firkin of Scratch 38. Neither cases nor draft will be available on this date (in fact the beer is not even packaged). We are stealing a firkin’s worth from the aging tank to give everyone something to do (besides shopping) on Black Friday. Scratch #38 features Centennial and Chinook hops creating a piney/grapefruit flavor.
Recipes are being developed for Scratch 39 and 40. They will be available as soon as we can get the other ones out of the tanks.
