Smuttynose and Portsmouth Brewery News for Summer 2012
We’ve got a Rye IPA Short Batch release coming up next week during NH Craft Beer Week. Following Rye IPA is a batch of Strawberry Berliner Weiss called, “Strawberry Short Weiss.” It’ll be in the neighborhood of 3.7% abv, has a clean lactic character and the flavor of real strawberries. It’s very very light bodied and freakishly drinkable and refreshing. Fermentation was done with a hefeweizen yeast and we added natural strawberry puree at a rate of about 2 gallons per barrel. Homunculus will be released on July 16 and was dry-hopped with Saphir.
Looking ahead, we’ll be releasing a bottled version of “Noonan” our black IPA, in December. Noonan was originally released as a Short Batch in 2011, as a tribute to Greg Noonan, Scherer award-winner, author and New England brewing pioneer.
We’re in the middle of the interviewing process for a new Field Sales Manager who will cover Philly, New Jersey and other parts of eastern PA.
We’ve sent some beer over to Denmark and Sweden but we don’t have a formalized arrangement yet, though we would like to see how that develops.
Portsmouth Brewery
Tod Mott from Portsmouth Brewery is brewing a collaboration beer with John Kimmich from the Alchemist on Wednesday. Called Pidgy Black. It’ll be available during Vermont Brewers Fest, both at the festival site as well as on tap at Portsmouth Brewery. It’ll be stout-like, about 5% abv, heavily hopped and made with oats and lactose for smoothness and mouthfeel.
The Portsmouth Brewery has also nearly finished renovating the bathrooms downstairs in the Jimmy LaPanza Lounge.
