Ska Brewing Has Lots To Celebrate
(DURANGO, CO) — Ska Brewing capped a busy week of rare beer tastings, beer releases, and competition wins by bringing home the coveted “Honorable Mention” award from the Cortez Journal’s “Best of Montezuma Reader’s Choice Awards.”
The brewery also won a Great American Beer Festival (GABF) Gold Medal this weekend, for their True Blonde Ale. The flagship beer, part of Ska’s original lineup, took top honors in the English-Style Summer Ale category. The brewery completed a trifecta by crushing the competition in the hotly contested “Brewers Karaoke Cup” at Denver’s Star Bar during Denver Beer Fest / GABF. An elite team of Ska owners, brewers and salespeople donned ABBA costumes and performed a choreographed dance routine to secure the win.
Speaking about the Cortez Journal award, Ska President and Co-founder Dave Thibodeau said, “An honorable mention is very important to us. We’ve always tried to be honorable, and I guess it’s really paying off now.” He added, “Karaoke is very important to us too, although we didn’t realize that until last week.”
When pressed about the GABF Gold Medal, the award some might consider the most significant of the three, Thibodeau said, “True Blonde was the very first beer we brewed back in 1995. She’s been with us every step of the way, and it’s great to see one of our original beers win gold at the nation’s most important beer festival.”
True Blonde Ale also won bronze medals at GABF in 2006 and 2009.
