Schlafly Beer Reveals Stout Bout Variety Pack
(ST. LOUIS, MO)—Schlafly Beer announces the release of one of their most popular seasonal variety packs, Stout Bout. With three stouts brewed exclusively for the sampler, this year’s 12-pack Stout Bout features: Mexican Chocolate Stout, Oatmeal Stout, Export Stout and the new Berry Brunch Stout. All of the beers (excluding Oatmeal Stout) are available exclusively in the variety pack. The sampler is available across Schlafly’s distribution area now.
Unique to this year’s Stout Bout box design, each 12-pack includes a ballot for fans to cast their vote for their favorite Schlafly stout varieties from past years. The beers that receive the top four votes will be included in the inaugural Stout Bout Hall of Fame Pack in 2021.
Founding Brewer Stephen Hale explains, “The Stout Bout name is a play on the boxing term for a match, and every year, our Schlafly customers wait to see what flavors make the pack. Usually, our annual Stout & Oyster Festival in March determines the ‘winning’ selections for the sampler. We sample over a dozen specialty stouts over the weekend and popular variations make the pack for the following. Since our 2020 Stout & Oyster Festival was canceled this year due to the pandemic, we thought this would be a fun way to bring back some of the past stouts that our fans ask for every year.”
The Hall of Fame ballot includes nearly 20 past Stout Bout offerings such as: Milk Chocolate Stout, Vanilla Milk Stout, Salted Caramel Stout, Blueberry Coffee Stout, Dulce de Leche Stout, Dry Hopped Stout, Session Stout and more.
“Every year, we hear from our Schlafly followers on social media with calls to bring back their favorites from year’s past. Well, this year is their chance to vote for their favorites to come back,” says Hale.
For more about each beer in the 2020 Stout Bout pack:
Berry Brunch Stout (ABV: 5.7%): This fruit-forward stout is brewed with coffee and a special blend of blueberries and blackberries. Think of this as your bowl of fresh fruit, cup of coffee and beer delivered in one rich glass.
Mexican Chocolate Stout (6.0% ABV): A classic American stout inspired by all the characteristics of real, Mexican-style hot chocolate. Creamy, roasty, sweet elements provide a perfect base for the addition of cocoa nibs, which the brewers add directly to the fermenter to age until their finest flavors blend with the stout. The addition of cinnamon adds a kick that balances well with all the flavors in the beer.
Export Stout (ABV: 6.0%): This jet-black, robust stout fights off the chilly breeze with roasted and rich flavors that warm you from the inside out.
Oatmeal Stout (ABV: 5.7%): A classic that delivers exactly what you’d expect in a British-style stout. Brewed to bring out the smooth, roasted malt and a touch of sweetness that’s not over the top, the Oatmeal Stout has been a fan favorite since 1991. It’s revered as one of “the originals.”
The Stout Bout pack can be purchased at the Schlafly brewpubs or across the brewery’s distribution region ($13.99 suggested retail) as well as on draft at the Schlafly Bottleworks, Tap Room and Bankside brewpubs.
