Rogue Debuts Gaijin Collab with Chef Dechellis
Rogue Ales has collaborated with Chef Josh Dechellis to create Gaijin Pale Ale, a unique beer to complement his unique cooking style. As a world traveler, Josh picked the name “Gaijin”, a Japanese word meaning foreigner. Josh is a long time rogue, having been introduced to Rogue Ales in 1994 as a sous chef in New Jersey at the age of 20.
Born in Colombia and raised in New Jersey, at age 14 Chef Josh Dechellis found his passion working at a local restaurant while trying to earn money for a new snowboard. Against the advice of his parents, Josh enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America. His enthusiasm to eat and create great food took him around the world to New York, San Francisco, Paris, Tokyo, Singapore and Kyoto.
In his travels he worked with such notable chefs as Wolfgang Puck, Rocco DiSpirito, David Bouley, Charlie Trotter, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Alain Passard and worked as a chef in renowned international restaurants including L’Arpege, Lucas Carton, Wolfgang Pucks Pastrio, Union Pacific, and Sumile.
In 2005, Josh left New York to open Sumile Tokyo. When Josh returned to New York in 2007 he opened his first concept restaurant Bar Fry, an American Tempura Bar. Josh lives in New York with his wife Jennifer, eight month old son Mason and their dog Milo.
Gaijin is a pale ale made with 10 ingredients and infused with whole juniper berries. Gaijin will be available at Bar Fry and other gourmet restaurants in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco and will be available in 22oz bottles, 64oz growlers and on draft.
Bar Fry is located at 50 Carmine in Manhattan.
Celebrating its second century, Rogue Ales is an Artisan Varietal Brewery founded in Oregon in 1988, as one of America’s first 50 microbreweries. Rogue has 550+ awards for taste and quality and is distributed nationally and in 9 other countries.
