New Belgium's Team Wonderbike Launches Wonderblog
Online Community Brings Together People from all Rides of Life
Fort Collins, CO – New Belgium Brewing, home of flagship Fat Tire Amber Ale and other Belgian-inspired brews, has launched an interactive online blog for the growing community of its Team Wonderbike members. Team Wonderbike, a social movement created by the folks at New Belgium, was started in 2005 to inspire and increase the use of one of mankind’s greatest inventions: the bicycle. Human-powered and carbon-free, the bicycle is the simple, accessible solution to many issues….with sexy legs as an added benefit!
Currently more than 14,000 members strong, Team Wonderbike is a pedal-powered bike commuter club whose members pledge to bike – not drive – as often as possible. So far the total number of miles pledged is more than 13 million miles for the coming year. Team members can upload stories and images and check in with other members at http://www.teamwonderbike.com/blog.
“The Team Wonderbike blog is an online community where Wonderbikers can share stories and ideas on how to increase society’s embrace of man’s greatest invention – the bicycle,” said Bryan Simpson, spokesperson from New Belgium. “Leaving the car parked is good for the planet, and good for your body and soul.”
To take the Team Wonderbike pledge, visit www.teamwonderbike.com. Bicycle commuters (and those who want to start) can join the Team Wonderblog forum to post ideas, stories and images at www.teamwonderbike.com/blog. Riders can also contribute to an online Wonderbook bike log that calculates cumulative miles biked and the amount of carbon offset.
In addition to Team Wonderbike, New Belgium champions other bicycle advocacy efforts, including Tour de Fat which supports local non-profit bicycling organizations. In 2007 alone, Tour de Fat raised more than $245,000 for more than 20 bicycle groups that encourage bicycle commuting, bicycle safety education, trail maintenance programs and other community-based programs throughout the country.
New Belgium Brewing is nationally recognized for its progressive environmental activities. Consumers can enjoy their favorite New Belgium beer even more knowing it was produced with wind-powered electricity, green building techniques and water conservation as a way of life.
