Listermann Brewing Hosts International Women’s Day Event Tomorrow!
(Cincinnati, OH) — Listermann Brewing Company is hosting an event for International Women’s Day on March 8th from 5-9 in the taproom. This is the second year that the brewery has held the event. This year the brewery is releasing three different farmhouse ales that were all female brewed with labels that were designed by three different local female artists.
The three different farmhouse ales are bottled and will be sold in 4-packs with proceeds being donated to Women Helping Women, a local organization that provides evidence-based prevention and expert crisis intervention and support services for survivors of dating violence, sexual violence, domestic violence and stalking in Hamilton and Butler, Ohio Counties. The three female-brewed beers will be released in 4-packs and available on draft. $1 of every pint during the event will be donated to Women Helping Women along with 10% of the bottle sales.
Back in January, Listermann hosted a community brew day which welcomed women in Cincinnati to come help brew the beers that will be released at the event. This brew day was led by Kristen Ballinger, the Marketing Manager at Listermann Brewing Company. “It was a great turnout with a collective mix of women from different backgrounds that came out to help us brew. Through this whole experience I have had the opportunity to gain a sense of community and connect more with women in Cincinnati” said Ballinger.
The three local artists who created the labels are Jaclin Hastings (Riveting Rosie label), Katie Jaeger (Call to Farms label) and Kaycie Coy (Tastes Like Persistence label). The three artists worked with the brewery’s graphic design company, Lemon Grenade to create powerful imagery for each beer.
Jaclin Hastings is a local tattoo artist at White Whale Tattoo in Walnut Hills. She moved back to Cincinnati in 2010 after receiving her BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design. She spent a few years in retail, freelancing on the side, before tattooing found her in November of 2015. Jaclin also designed last year’s Riveting Rosie label.“This year’s Riveting Rosie label is a new, fun spin on the label from last year. Still a nod to Rosie the Riveter, while lightheartedly and blatantly displaying a main ingredient of the beer” said Hastings.
Katie Jaeger is a professional artist working and living in the Cincinnati area. She has used art, mainly large scale murals, to address gender based violence and to increase women’s rights/empowerment since 2014. Her design for this label is inspired by a 1930’s war poster urging women to join the Women’s Land Army during WW2.
Kaycie Coy is a North Carolina native who moved to the Greater Cincinnati area in 2015. She is an amateur artist that is developing her skills through the plethora of different outlets our community has to offer. Her goal is to continue to work on her craft and bridge the gap between amateur and casual professional.
“The design’s intent is to follow Listermann’s original theme of recognizing strong women. One of the most powerful things women can do is deviate from the norms our culture expects of us. I wanted to design a label that would provide a historical and metaphorical message. The “bra burning” Miss America protest of 1968, which didn’t result in fire due to Atlantic City Boardwalk rules, was a strategy coined from draft card burning protests to promote women’s liberation. By breaking free of expectations and restrictions based on gender, we can pursue happiness and live our lives like the symbolism behind Lady Liberty” said Coy.
The brewery event will include live screen printing, a free photo booth and a raffle filled with donations from local businesses to raise money for Women Helping Women. The live screen printing will include the designs of the different labels for t-shirts, baseball tees and tote bags. Sassy Snaps Photobooth, owned by Amanda Reed, will be there with props and a fun backdrop for fun photos that customers can access online and share. The raffle will include prizes to local businesses such as Cincy Shirts, Cincy Brew Bus, Craft Connection Brewery Tours, The Candle Lab, The Rhined and more with all the raffle proceeds being donated.
So come out to the brewery this Thursday to celebrate the women of Cincinnati anad help raise money for a great cause! To find out more information on this event, go to https://www.facebook.com/events/340624779764985/.
