Tallgrass Brewing Company is an up-and-coming microbrewery located in Manhattan, Kansas. The brewery was started by Jeff Gill in August of 2007, in order to fulfill his dream of brewing high quality, great tasting beers for people across the Midwest to enjoy. Tallgrass Brewing Company is currently distributing three brews, in kegs and bottles, across the state of Kansas and will soon have seasonal releases. They have plans to expand outside of Kansas in the near future to provide beer to people across the Great Plains.
OUR BREWS
Tallgrass Ale: An English Style Brown Ale is the flagship beer of Tallgrass Brewing Company. It is a deep chestnut color with a smooth character. The distinctive look and taste of Tallgrass Ale comes from its unique blend of German, English, and American-style malts and a generous helping of both American and traditional English hops. These ingredients, English brewer’s yeast, and the Flint Hills’ excellent brewing water give Tallgrass Ale a distinctive, toffee-highlighted taste and smooth profile that is always drinkable and keeps you wanting more. The recipe was first brewed by Jeff Gill as a 10-gallon batch of homebrew, making it a classic example of an American craft beer. Of all his homebrew recipes, Jeff chose Tallgrass Ale as the flagship beer because of the beer’s surprising light body, extraordinarily smooth and balanced profile, great taste, and clean finish. That first little 10-gallon batch of Tallgrass was gone way too fast and Jeff knew this was the first Tallgrass brew he wanted people to enjoy!
Tallgrass Wheat: For their second beer they wanted to do something completely different than Tallgrass Ale, and still stay true to their roots of being an independent craft brewery from Kansas. Tallgrass Wheat is different from what most would expect in a Midwestern wheat beer. It is brewed in the Belgian Wit style, with a unique blend of cracked coriander, Curaçao orange peel and natural spice. This blend, Belgian brewer’s yeast, and a generous helping of oats creates a complex, smooth and highly satisfying wheat beer that is best enjoyed on hot, Midwestern summer afternoons. Tallgrass Wheat is brewed to have a drinkability, complexity and unique character that craft beer drinkers appreciate.
The scent of peppery coriander, orange citrus, and fresh-baked bread permeates the brewery whenever this wheat beer is being brewed!
Tallgrass IPA: Their third beer is an India Pale Ale that is rich, complex, and flavorful. Craft Beer drinkers will appreciate the complex, flavorful brew that comes as a result of our careful selection of the finest barley, specialty malts, and heaps of North American hops. The brewers balanced this brew to give it a rich and complex hop flavor and bitterness, while keeping the beer extremely drinkable with its malty foundation. Don’t be fooled by the smoothness of this Great Plains IPA though, it still weighs in at a hefty 6.3% ABV!
