Highland Razor Wit Release This Friday
(Asheville, NC) – This summer brings back Highland’s twist on a wit with ginger, grains of paradise, and cumin, in addition to the traditional coriander and orange peel. Each year they grind the spices in-house for better flavor. Four blenders met a quick end last year. (They’ve since purchased a commercial blender.) “It’s more work, but I love the ginger,” said head brewer Joey Justice. “Ginger can dry the beer out, and grains of paradise are sort of hot, so we started with a slightly sweeter base and more body to compensate for the spices… There’s a lot to be said for subtlety in being creative.”
Celebrate the new seasonal at the brewery’s Razor Wit Release Party this Friday, May 30, 4-9pm. $1 per pint helps preserve places like Razor Mountain. Enjoy live music from 6-8pm and food trucks. Admission is free.
Like all other Highland seasonals, Razor Wit is named after a North Carolina land feature. The brewery partners with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy (SAHC) to create the beer names and to raise awareness and funds. SAHC protects thousands of acres of the NC and TN Appalachians in perpetuity through land trusts, education and work days. “Working with SAHC gives more meaning to what we do,” said Leah Wong Ashburn. “They do such good work, permanent good for NC. We’re in for the long haul, too. It couldn’t be a better fit.”
