Firestone Walker Velvet Merlin Voted Best Stout
Earlier this month, we asked you, the loyal, thirsty readers of The Full Pint to choose what you believe to be the Best Stout. While most people turn to the bigger, more robust brother, Imperial Stout, we wanted to put light on the classic, finessed regular sized Stout. Out of 35 listed Stout’s at 7.9% abv or lower, and many write ins, you voted for Firestone Walker’s Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout.
Velvet Merlin is a fairly new kid on the block. It’s original name was Velvet Merkin, and has been piloted and tweaked over the past few years at Firestone Walker. Small batches have even made it’s way into a bourbon barrel for Anniversary blends and GABF competitions. Once Firestone Walker decided the world was ready for this Stout, it was renamed to a more shelf friendly Velvet Merlin. We would like to congratulate Firestone Walker on winning this poll amongst a sea of mighty tasty stouts. Here is a brief statement from Firestone Walker. Cheers!
“We are honored that The Full Pint’s loyal craft beer fans have awarded Velvet Merlin best stout of 2011. It is truly proof that our brewing efforts and the talent of our brew team have not gone unnoticed. We raise a glass to The Full Pint and the amazing passion and spirit of the craft beer enthusiast.
Cheers!”
