Fiction Beer Releases Glazed & Confuzed Collaboration
Denver, CO – Fiction Beer Company has collaborated with the local donut gurus at Glazed and Confuzed (recently listed as one of the top Donut makers in the country by Food Network) to create a delicious holiday treat. “42” is a Donut Bourbon Porter Fermented with Maple Syrup and was inspired by Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The brewers at Fiction Beer Company were looking to try something “outside of the box” on this one and wanted to partner with a local company to help create a flavor and texture profile that beer geeks as well as beer novices could appreciate.
The collaboration started with a robust porter base beer—brown, malty, chocolaty and smooth with just a hint of roast character. The star of this show: 57 pounds of donuts (including the Vanilla Brown Butter Glaze), was added late in the boiling process to help release and lock in the flavor and aroma of fresh donuts. The glaze was specially made for Fiction Beer Company by the mad geniuses at Glazed and Confuzed so that it contained little to no fat that would normally be expected in a Vanilla Brown Butter Glaze.
Instead the brown milk solids were separated from the liquefied butter fat and only the solids were used to make the glaze. “42” was fermented in the traditional manor; however, as the fermentation slowed the brewers added 33 lbs of Grade B Maple Syrup for a rich flavor and aroma that accentuates and builds upon the base beer and donut flavors. During the aging process the brewers infused the beer with bourbon soaked oak. All together, these steps have created a well rounded, easy drinking, holiday beer crafted with all of the joy and happiness that donuts bring to us all. Clocking in at a reasonable 6.2% ABV this beer is sessionable—and you may just not want to stop at one.
Fiction Beer Company will host Glazed and Confuzed for a special release party on Saturday, December 20th. The release event will include donut and beer pairings led by the brewers and bakers, special discounts on beer and brunch options available from both Glazed and Confuzed, as well as from the regular food truck at Fiction. Doors will open at 11am and the guided paring will start at noon.
