Empyrean Brewing Says its Time to Seize the Saison
Lincoln, NE – With the changing of the seasons from winter to spring, Empyrean Brewing Co. announces the release of a new beer in its Carpe Brewem line, appropriately named Saison.
Packaged in two versions: traditional and barrel aged, the new Carpe Brewem Saison is sure to please. Pale gold in color and easy drinking, Head Brewer Rich Chapin describes it as “tart citrus and pear flavors up front with peppery lemon zest in the finish, it will remind you of a white wine.”
To enhance that white wine flavor, Chapin aged a portion of the batch in fresh chardonnay barrels. This barrel-aged version will be released in 4-pack bottles while the non-barrel-aged version will be available on draft.
Historically, saison is the name given to low-alcohol pale ales brewed seasonally in the French-speaking region of Belgium. Brewed for farm workers during harvest season, the style tended to be wide-ranging with each farm producing their own unique variation of the beer style.
Most saisons were, and still are, made with a portion of wheat and most all display distinct tart and peppery flavors that come from yeast strands cultivated in the Belgian countryside. Saisons pair well with flaky fish, pastas and salads.
Empyrean’s Carpe Brewem Saison will be released to Midwest markets in May. Ask for it at your favorite bottle shop or watering hole.
