Denver Beer Acquires Former Oskar Blues Brewer Jason Buehler
(Denver, CO) – Denver Beer Co. welcomed Jason Buehler earlier this month as Head Brewer at the Platte Street Taproom. Buehler joins Denver Beer Co. from Oskar Blues Brewery where he held the position of Head Brewer at the Lyons brewery since 2012. Buehler will replace Austin Wiley who left Denver Beer Co. to open his own brewery, Spangalang, which opened in Denver this spring.
Buehler brings a wealth of experience to Denver Beer Co. from his previous role at Oskar Blues where he managed the specialty beer brewery and research and recipe development. He initiated the Oskar Blues barrel aging program in Lyons in addition to many collaboration projects with other breweries. While at Oskar Blues, Buehler developed and brewed the recipe for a Chocolate Beer which garnered a Silver Medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival (GABF). Prior to Oskar Blues, Buehler was the head brewer for Shamrock Brewing Company in Pueblo, Colo., and Rockyard American Grill and Brewery in Castle Rock, Colo. During his tenure at these breweries his recipes landed several awards including a 2007 GABF Silver, German Strong Bock, 2009 GABF Bronze, American Wheat, 2008 World Beer Cup Bronze, Wood and Barrel Aged Beer. Buehler is a graduate of the Siebel Institute of Technology’s Brewing Program and holds a Bachelor of Science from Miami University of Ohio.
“The people and culture of Denver Beer Company are definitely the biggest reasons I wanted to be a part of the team,” stated Buehler. “I’ve known some of the employees for years and have always been impressed with their drive and passion to not only make great beer but have fun while doing it. I also like the position that Denver Beer Company is in within a rapidly expanding craft beer market. I’m excited to have the opportunity to further develop my skills creating fun, new beers in one of the best beer scenes in the world!”
Buehler will be working with Assistant Brewer Brendan Witt at the Platte Street Taproom brewery. The Denver Beer Co. brewing team also includes Canworks Lead Brewer Nick Bruno, and Brewmaistes Charlie Berger and Patrick Crawford. Berger and Crawford continue to oversee brewing operations at both breweries.
“Jason and I were classmates in brewing school at Siebel and I’m thrilled that we get to work together now,” stated Charlie Berger. “Jason has incredible talent and we’re excited for him to work with us on new, innovative recipes and really take our brewery and beers to the next level.”
The Denver Beer Co taproom, located at 1695 Platte Street, was founded in 2011 and is open seven days per week. Denver Beer Co also manages a production brewery, Canworks, which focuses primarily on the brewing, canning, and bottling of beer for distribution. For more information, visit www.denverbeerco.com.
