Crooked Stave – News Update on Cellar Reserve Beers and More
Crooked Stave, soon to be based out of Denver, updated us on their barrel aged ale program and their migration from Fort Collins to Denver. Cheers!
Crooked Stave transferred 3 oak barrels of Blackberry Petite Sour last week and readying the beer for bottling this week. “Blackberry Petite Sour is our first barrel-aged sour beer that we will be releasing and has spent a considerable amount of time maturing in our Barrel Cellar.. It is also the first beer we plan to release through our 2012 Cellar Reserve program.”
“I really like where this beer is at, taking our soon-to-be-year around beer Petite Sour and using it as a base for which fruit can be added really drives depth into the beer. This time around we choose Blackberries aging the beer with over 2 pounds of Blackberries per gallon of sour beer. The Blackberry character shines and with nine additional month of aging after adding the fruit the bramble character has mellowed and the citrusy Brettanomyces flavors and aromas add depth and variance.”
“In continuing our efforts forward in 2012, we are working on a major expansion project that will locate our brewery permanently in Denver. Previously brewing out of another brewery in Fort Collins we will now have a home and a stable foundation from which to fill our lives with barrels. Last year we might have been the smallest brewery in the US releasing for sale only 75 bbl of beer. Most of the beer we brewed went into barrels and we’d like to fill 5 times as much beer into barrels this year.”
“To sustain our crazy ways, this year we started our Cellar Reserve Membership which gives our loyal fans a first chance at many of the small projects hidden away in our Barrel Cellar. Blackberry Petite Sour being the first we’ll have 9 other releases throughout the year of small batch barrel-aged beers and some cool merch to throw on top of that.. The Cellar Reserve Membership was a fun and unique way we came up with to help raise funds for our initial stages of the Denver brewery move and to help get started on building our new brewery. We plan to close sales of the Cellar Reserve Membership at the end of the month, so for anyone still interested grab it now!”
