Craft Beer News Roundup – Maui Brewing, Short’s, Upland Brewing and Big Boss
Hap hap happy New Year. Here is the first Craft Beer News Roundup of the year, featuring small yet important stories on Maui Brewing, Short’s Brewing, Upland Brewing and Big Boss Brewing. Cheers!
Maui Brewing – Spring Seasonal release! La Perouse White, Silver Medal GABF 2011 Belgian Style Witbier. Limited release 200bbls and it’s pau. Belgian Inspired Witbier brewed with Local Mandarin Oranges, and coriander…. tasty beverage! See sweet label to the right.
Short’s Brewing – New flagship year round bottle release! Pontius Road Pilsner: American Pilsner will be replacing the Magician: London Red Ale as a year round bottle offering from Short’s. Pontius is a true American Pilsner made entirely w/ Pilsen malt and flaked maize. Not only will this beer style offer a nice refreshing lower ABV option for craft beer enthusiasts, it will also allow us the opportunity to showcase the true full flavored nature of the American Pilsner, and help differentiate between the American Pale Lager counterparts that frequently refer to themselves as pilsners.
Upland Brewing – From their recent emailer: “Now that the holidays are behind us, we wanted to give you an update on Upland Brewing Co’s Expansion. Two weeks ago JV Northwest delivered to us a new 150-BBL fermenter and another 150-BBL bright tank – yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus! The new tanks were named Gamara and Billy Squier, for reasons only Caleb can explain. A little change in our plans for a new production brewery: for a host of reasons that ultimately resolve to economics, we sold the site on Grimes we had originally intended to use for the expansion and acquired another facility located on the west side of town, near the Cook headquarters and GE Appliances. We are sad to leave the B-Line location, but this new site is already geared to support industrial activity, and we’ll be able to pour the savings into a new sours-only brewery on our existing 11th Street site.
We have a completely new brewhouse on order, as well as additional fermenters and conditioning tanks. We’ll have the capacity to brew over 18,000 BBLs when we move in May, with space to expand above 40,000 BBLs over time.
We’re excited about the changes taking place around here and our goal is to continuously create some of Indiana’s best craft beer.
Short’s is quickly approaching it’s 1,000th batch of their flagship IPA Huma Lupa Licous. In order to celebrate this momentous occasion for their best selling brand, Short’s plans to brew up a special batch of “double Huma” to be sold exclusively out of their Bellaire brew pub location.
