Chimay 25th Anniversary
From Contributor: Randy Clemens
It’s been 25 years since the Trappist monks at the Abbey of Scourmont started exporting Chimay to the United States. Despite having been brewed in Belgium for 146 years, they faced some difficult challenges upon entering the States back in 1983.
At that time, cork topped beers were virtually unheard of, many retailers mistook it for wine, and because of its relatively elevated alcohol content, there were many states where it could not even be legally sold. Fast forward a quarter-century, and take note of all that has changed, with Chimay now distributed in 47 states, and countless other Belgian brews that have followed suit.
To commemorate this milestone, Bières de Chimay and Manneken-Brussel Imports have released a special limited edition 25th Anniversary goblet, available at special events being held at bars across the country, or in the Chimay Anniversary Gift Pack available through select retailers.
