Brau Brothers Brewing – A note from Dustin
Hey Everyone, Just a quick update of what’s up in Lucan.
Hop harvest is just about complete. It’s been a challenge to harvest in a timely manner at just the right time in order to ensure the the freshest hops for our newest beer, Hundred Yard Dash. We’ve learned a lot from this year’s crop, and we improve our yield every year.
We have used a blend for this year’s seasonal, primarily made up of Cascade, Centennial, Sterling, and Nugget. However, almost all of our eleven varieties are blended in at some point in the process.
Hundred Yard Dash is coming along very well. We have several batches fermenting, dry-hopping, and maturing. It will be available both in sixers and on draft. Two row malt, including estate-grown barley, along with Vienna and Aromatic malt with a touch of wheat constitute the malt bill. Hops are added constantly during the brewing process with extensive dry-hopping. The mash tun doubles as a hop back filled with just-picked green hops for circulation. Look for it to hit shelves and tap lines later this month and early October. This is a very limited run; we’ll grow more hops next year.
Before you head to Autumn Brew Review, join us on Saturday, October 2nd at Northeast Social for Breakfast With The Braus! A great family-style breakfast served up before Autumn Brew Review. For those not familiar, Northeast Social is about 5 blocks from the festival gate. This is an awesome opportunity to fill your belly with good food (and beer) before filling your belly with beer. Preview Hundred Yard Dash Fresh Hop Ale, as well as crack open a cask of Coffee-Infused Rubus Black. I’ll be there to chat and answer questions. Should be a blast!
Thursday, October 28th Jackpot Junction Casino in Redwood will be hosting a Brau Bros Beer Dinner. I’ve seen the menu, which is fantastic. I’ll be there to talk about beer, food, and everything Brau Bros’. We’ll sample a few beers, including some cask ale. After dinner we’ll kill off the cask and talk smart. The best thing? 39 bucks gets you a room for the night. Contact Jackpot Junction at 1.800.WIN.CASH, or call the brewery at 507.747.BEER.
South Dakota Beer Drinkers: I’ll make my annual trek out to Selby for Pheasant Hunting and Brau Beer on Saturday, October 16 at Dakota Maid. Samples and food specials, so stop in and say hi. Ring Neck Braun Ale is a great compliment to fall hunting. (not at the same time) Also, start making plans for the Brau Bros’ SD Homebrewing Challenge. It’s tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, November 9th. We’ll get details out soon, just be sure to mark your calendar and break out the equipment. This is a great time of year to homebrew.
Brau Brothers is proud to be a corporate sponsor of SMSU Mustang Atheletics! We had a blast at Smokefest last weekend, and we encourage you to look for Brau Beer at campus events! Brau Bros’ Beer is brewed by Mustangs, for Mustangs!!
Take care, and thanks for supporting the brewery!
