Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale 2008
From Sierra Nevada: The long, cold nights of winter are a little brighter with Celebration® Ale. Wonderfully robust and rich, Celebration® Ale is dry-hopped for a lively, intense aroma. Brewed especially for the holidays, it is perfect for a festive gathering or for a quiet evening at home.
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. – Celebration Ale 2008 – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 6.8% abv. 12 pack purchased at Beverages and More, Pasadena, CA.
Appearance: An amber, almost ruby body topped with a pillowy thick white head. Cloudy but translucent.
Aroma: Grapefruit, pine, orange and flowers.
Taste: Flower and citrus hop burst. Then a resinous layer of bitter Sierra Nevada trademarked hops. Finished with another layer of dark sugar sweetness, which intertwines with the flavor bursting hops.
Mouthfeel: Thick, creamy, and at the same time, refreshing. I think the citrus notes make it refreshing.
Overall: I have been enjoying this beer by the case load since 2005. For whatever reason, this years tastes way more complex, way more aromatic, and way more flowery. I would love for any of you to comment as to whether I am nuts or whether it is extra special this year.

I didnt think about it till ya said something! And you’re spot on. It was nice to find this one in a 12 pack. I voted this one “Best Holiday Beer”, as I have for the last 10 years!

I wish I could tell you that you are nuts, but unfortunately 2008 is the fist that I’ve tried the Celebration Ale. (For shame, I know)
It really is a complex beer as you mention, I found the aroma to be incredibly strong – like I could smell it from across the room almost! If you love big-hop beers, this one is a must-try I think.
I’ll check back next year for comparisons!

I’m drinking one right now and I totally agree with your impressions. Great beer. Dark chocolate note on the finish as well.

I think your dead on. I think it’s a little more pronounced flavor overall this year, but by far still SN Celebration at it’s finest. I love this beer.
