Weihenstephaner Korbinian

Submitted by Dan on June 11, 2009 – 12:03 pm 2 Comments

KorbinianProduct Description: The Korbinian is a fine example of the hearty, malt-driven doppelbock (or “double bock”) style, but it’s definitely not just for lovers of strong beer. The brew offers complex, roasted malt aromas of coffee, chocolate, caramel, bread and raisins, and delivers plenty of malt – with notes of peppery spice, alcohol and hop bitterness – on the palate. At the same time, this smooth, creamy, medium-to-full-bodied beer is eminently drinkable and highly regarded by lovers of the style.

Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan -Weihenstephaner Korbinian – 500 ml bottle poured into a pint glass. 7.4% abv. Purchased at Whole Foods Market – Arroyo – Pasadena, CA.

Appearance: Pours an amber brown with a 1/2 inch of dense, sudsy head.

Aroma: Bready malt, and a little bit of brown sugar sweetness.

Taste: Caramel malt, bready malt, plum,  and hop bitterness in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Creamy and thick.

Overall: A flavorful, well balanced Double Bock/Doppel Bock.
