Cigar-City-Hunahpu-2012From Cigar City Brewing – In Mayan myth, Hunahpu gave cocoa to the Mayans. The base recipe is Marshal Zhukov Imperial Stout. It is aged on pasilla and ancho peppers as well as vanilla, cinnamon and cocoa nibs.

Cigar City Brewing – Cigar City Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout Vintage 2012 – 750 ml. bottle poured into a goblet. 11% abv.

Appearance:  Pours black, like motor oil with a small cap of tan froth.

Aroma: Vanilla, hot peppers, green bell pepper  chocolate, chocolate chip cookie dough.

Taste: Bitter Chocolate, burnt roast, cinnamon covered almond, vanilla, oily hot pepper. Finishes more burnt that previous fresh batches.

Mouthfeel:  Thick. Full bodied.

Overall: Still in my top 3 favorite beers EVER. I think the pepper was more pronounced than the last two years, when fresh, and seemed a little hot alcohol wise. Drinking very well.
