Anchor Our Special Ale 2009 – (Anchor Christmas)

Submitted by Dan on December 5, 2009 – 8:39 am One Comment

Anchor Our Special Ale Anchor ChristmasFrom Anchor Brewing - The brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer are proud to announce the release of our thirty-fith annual Christmas Ale. Every year since 1975 the brewers at Anchor have brewed a distinctive and unique Christmas Ale, which is available from early November to mid-January. The Ale’s recipe is different every year—as is the tree on the label—but the intent with which we offer it remains the same: joy and celebration of the newness of life. Since ancient times, trees have symbolized the winter solstice when the earth, with its seasons, appears born anew.

Anchor Brewing – Anchor Our Special Ale, affectionately known as Anchor Christmas Ale 2009 – 12 oz. bottle poured into a goblet. Between 5-6% abv. Purchased at Whole Foods Market – Arroyo Pasadena, CA.

Appearance: Pours a dark maroon with a thin tan layer of swirls and froth for head.

Aroma: Figs, chocolate, evergreen needles, red berry, raisin, and a touch of spice.

Taste: A big mouthful of dark chocolate and spruce to start out. Then I get a nice layer of dark fruit including raisins and fig. Finishes with cocoa powder and moderate hop spice.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied and fizzy.

Overall: Christmas in a glass baby.
