A few times a year, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. makes some affordable treats for us beer lovers. We get the Bigfoot Barleywine and Celebration IPA in the winter months, a crisp lager in the form of Summerfest, and their Anniversary Ale. I cannot remember if years past have identified the style of beer that the Anniversary ale is, but this year, the bottle only tells us that the brew has loads of Cascade hops. After some research online (and before my tongue told me), I found out it falls under the category of American IPA. I was able to pick up 12 at my local Whole Foods Market, and have enjoyed every last drop.
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Anniversary Ale 2008 - 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. 5.9% abv.
Appearance: Pours with a fluffy white head. The color is an orange gold, and is fairly translucent. After the fluffy head subsides, a 1/4 head retains throughout.
Aroma: My first impression is that it has that classic Sierra Nevada hop smell. This brew in particular has aromas of citrus and pine.
Taste: Piny hops with notes of lemon. The malt gives it a very slight sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Crisp and a bit watery. Although it is one big mouthful of hops, it is not too tart or puckering.
Overall: There are better IPAs, and better Sierra Nevada brews. With that said, this is a wonderfully flavored beer that would be enjoyed in a session. It is reasonably priced at $8.99 a six pack, and is mighty fresh, which should count a lot.

I am a very tough critic. I brewed my own beer for 4 wonderful years.
I believe the Sierra Neveda Anniversary Ale 2008 is of the upmost quality and enjoyment
It tastes similar to Sierra Nevada Pale ale, but it is noticeably softer, smoother, and more subtle.
I think this is a magnificent ale
