Logo for Stockyard Oatmeal StoutIf you are looking to try some new beers, and haven’t figured out what it is you like, check out Trader Joes. They aren’t everywhere in the country, but they are popping up more and more all over the country. Trader Joes gets beers from all over the world, and only sells them to you if they can get the lowest price on them. Another cool thing is, they have various breweries such as Gordon Beirch, Firestone Walker, and Goose Island making private label beers exclusively for Trader Joes. I found a wonderful Oatmeal Stout at TJ’s called Stockyard Oatmeal Stout, and after investigating, found out it is made by Goose Island in Chicago.

This proposal would result in the rejuvenation of the historic St. James’s Gate brewery and the construction, close to Dublin, of a new state of the art brewery, which would produce all beer types. It follows a comprehensive assessment of all brewing operations in Ireland, which was undertaken over the past 12 months. The assessment identified the optimum strategy to deliver the global competitiveness necessary for future growth and sustained success.

The Story Behind the Beer - Samuel Smith’s

Beer has a deep and rich history; it is produced by a perfect blend of agriculture, art, science, and magic. Beer is fun, interesting and often even compelling. Beer is a topic for great songs, a fulfilling hobby, a symbol of companionship, an icebreaker, a real treat to the senses… and sometimes, a beer is the high point of a day.

In addition to the pleasures of beer, there are also some great beer stories. Many are the tales of the homebrewer who was told by friends time & time again: “you should sell this!” There have been traditional regional beer styles that had almost disappeared (like oatmeal stout, reintroduced to the world by Samuel Smith’s in 1980). There are new styles, produced by brewers who push flavor boundaries. There are monks who brew beer, family recipes, wild yeast, and a trout who returned a gold ring to a princess. (If you don’t know the Orval story, click here.)
