Deschutes Base Camp Week in Houston May 16-21, 2011
Deschutes Brewery descends on Houston for its Base Camp Week of specialty beer tastings, beer and food pairings – a week-long celebration of all things Deschutes at some of the city’s best places to have some fun.
Base Camp kickoff, Jubel 2010 Tapping & Pint Night (Taps House of Beer) – We’re kicking off Deschutes Brewery’s “Houston Base Camp Week” in style with a special pint night. Get a pint of Deschutes beer – including crowd favorites Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter and Inversion Ale on tap, plus the famous once-a-decade ale, Jubel 2010!

Reverse Happy Hour (Liberty Station) – Switch it up and do a late night happy hour with special pricing on beers from Deschutes Brewery. Have an Inversion IPA on draft and keep the commemorative pint glass – celebrating Deschutes’ Base Camp Week all around H-town. And, you know, if you get hungry, there’s Hubcap and other great food cart partners for grub.

5-7 pm Happy Hour Deschutes Sampling (Plonk! Beer & Wine Bistro) – Visit Plonk for a sampling of Inversion IPA and Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale during happy hour. Want more than just a taste? Happy hour pricing will apply to Deschutes draft beers, and you get a free pint glass to boot. Beer fanatics are invited to stay and choose the featured Deschutes beer dinner at 7pm this same evening.
7-10 pm Featured Deschutes Beer Dinner (Plonk! Beer & Wine Bistro) – In celebration of American Craft Beer Week, Plonk! Beer & Wine Bistro and Deschutes Brewery present an evening of great beer and food pairings. This three-course meal includes Mirror Pond Pale Ale paired with Cataplana mussels; Black Butte Porter aptly complementing a course of expertly prepared hanger steak; and The Abyss matched perfectly with a rich dessert. A night to remember! Price: $50.00 for the three-course Deschutes beer dinner; tickets can be purchased on site.

Pints for Pups Fundraiser for Flip the Dog (Boneyard Drinkery) – Raise a toast to pet rescue and adoption! Deschutes beer on draft offered for a suggested donation for each pint. All the proceeds go directly to Flip the Dog, a group that joins forces with Houston area animal shelters to sponsor dogs and cats that need good homes.

Deschutes Sampling & Cheese Pairing (Whole Foods, Sugar Land) – Is there really anything better than working a little bit of beer tasting into your grocery shopping trip? Deschutes Brewery will be at the Sugar Land Whole Foods, with samples of its famous Imperial Stout, The Abyss. Knowledgeable staff will guide you through your tasting experience and pair your beer samples with some exotic cheeses.

Deschutes Sampling and The Abyss Pairing (Specs, Clearlake) – An early evening full of damn tasty beers from Oregon’s Deschutes Brewery! We will be sampling Deschutes’ Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Obsidian Stout and Seasonal. Also making an appearance is the brewery’s dark and mysterious Imperial Stout, The Abyss. We’ll be expertly pairing each beer with some exotic cheeses, sure to please the palate.

Sweet! Dessert Bar Beer Pairing (Barcadia) – It’s a round up of sugar and spice and everything nice to create a dessert bar where each sweet is matched perfectly with Black Butte Porter and other tasty Deschutes Brewery beers. What more do we need to say?

Brewery Night & Jubel 2010 tapping (Flying Saucer) – Flying Saucer will be offering Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter and Inversion IPA, as well as tapping into the once-a-decade excellence of the brewery’s Jubel 2010. This beer, which was discovered by accident due to a burglar and sub-zero temperatures in the brewery’s home state of Oregon (long story, come on down and we’ll tell it to you), was only bottled once before to celebrate the millennium more than 10 years ago.

1-3pm Tapping of Jubel 2010 (Ginger Man) – Enjoy an early tapping of Deschutes Brewery Jubel 2010, a beer so unique that’s only distributed once every 10 years! Jubel 2010 is a deeply dynamic presentation of the flavors found in the brewery’s festive winter seasonal, Jubelale.
