Are You Ready for San Diego Beer Week 2014?
(San Diego, CA) – It’s that time of the year again, time for the Craft Beer Capital of America to hold their 6th edition of San Diego Beer Week. SDBW runs for ten days this year, Nov. 7 – 16, and is celebrated throughout the entire county. SDBW is such a big deal here in San Diego that even a week isn’t long enough to attend all of the events!
San Diego Beer Week embodies every part of the massive beer culture currently taking place in sunny San Diego. San Diego has deep roots in brewing dating all the way back to 1896 with San Diego Brewing Company, and has grown to 87 breweries and brewpubs as of April, 2014. Multiple breweries from San Diego have been showered with awards, such as AleSmith Brewing Company, Ballast Point Brewing Company, and Stone Brewing Co.
SDBW officially kicks off with Guild Fest on Nov 7-8, taking place at the Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier in Downtown San Diego right next to the ocean. More than 50 San Diego County breweries are participating in the event with rare and one-off beers guaranteed to make an appearance. One of the best parts of Guild Fest is that it raises funds for Surfrider Foundation, Fight ALD and the San Diego Brewers Guild!
Throughout the ten days of SDBW, there will be multiple educational events, food and beer pairings, limited release beers, brewing lessons, and meet the brewer events. There are multiple events that are sure to be great such as Stone Brewing Co.’s Rare Beer Breakfast to start your day on the 8th, or Lost Abbey’s Barrel Night that takes place later that night. Lost Abbey Barrel Night tickets were limited to 150 this year, more than 6,000 people attempted to purchase tickets resulting in an event that sold out in 30 seconds.
Multiple breweries will be releasing limited bottles during SDBW: Karl Strauss just released their Peanut Butter Cup Porter, Lost Abbey will release Veritas 014 at Barrel Night, and Coronado Brewing Company will release their Barrel-Aged Punk’in Drublic on Nov 9 at 9:30 am.
SDBW wraps up at the lodge at Torres Pines on Sunday Nov 16th with an over the top Beer Garden. As you enjoy the views on the Arroyo Terrace, 24 breweries and 12 Chefs unite for a one of a kind beer and food pairing event. Admission includes unlimited tasters of beer and food, so be sure to book at room at the lodge in order to experience this event to its potential! Be sure to buy your tickets early, this event is popular and sells out every time.
