(Arvada, CO) – Arvada brewery Odyssey Beerwerks is celebrating five years of craft beer this Saturday, May 19th. The doors open at Noon and the party goes until close, which is loosely defined, depending on how many people are still hanging out and reveling.
“Five years is a big milestone,” says Odyssey Beerwerks’ Owner, Christopher Hill. “If I remember correctly, we were the 190th-ish brewery to open in Colorado and that seemed like a lot in 2013. In some ways it feels like we’ve been around forever. And yet I can’t believe it’s been five years – they’ve just flown by.”
Odyssey’s fifth anniversary party includes special beer releases, archive bombers, music from four bands, two food trucks, magic, and prizes throughout the day. Among the special beer releases is Kiwis, Koalas, and Godzilla, a Pacific Rim IPA featuring hops from New Zealand, Australia, and Japan. The music line-up consists of four Denver metro area bands: Matt Rouch and The Noise Upstairs, Brothers of Brass, Polka Folka, and Jim Jamm Jimmy. Says Hill, “we all love music here at the brewery, and we try to promote local bands as much as we can. We usually have two or three bands for our anniversary parties, but this being a special anniversary, we thought we’d go big and have four.” Magic from Brandon K. Parker will take place during the party as well. Parker frequently performs table-side magic at Odyssey, impressing even the most skeptical of patrons.
In addition, a super-secret fifth anniversary T-shirt will be available for purchase during the anniversary party, and not even Hill has laid eyes on it. “Our ‘Guy Who Gets Stuff Done,’ Jeremy, has been tight-lipped about the design and wanted it to be a surprise for the party,” says Hill. “So we’ll all finally get to see it – and wear it – on Saturday.”
Odyssey expects to see a lot of familiar and new faces on Saturday. Hill and the staff at the brewery have worked hard to create a fun and relaxing environment in the industrial business park space they occupy near Ralston Road and Sheridan Boulevard, including recently expanding the bar to accommodate more people.
“The craft brewery landscape has changed significantly in the five years since we opened, but our approach to brewing has remained the same,” says Hill. “We continue to strive to make great beer that’s true to style, yet we aren’t afraid to change c ourse. For example, our core lineup has evolved since we opened, and the recipes have been fine-tuned along the way, but three of them are more popular than ever: Heliocentric Hefeweizen, Ghost Drifter Pale Ale, and Psycho Penguin Vanilla Porter. We’re also extremely proud of quality and diversity of our rotating seasonals and limited release beers, which have medaled at both GABF and World Beer Cup.”
