DarkLord Day 2010 To Be Covered by TheFullPint.com
Dan from TheFullPint aka Danny Fullpint on Facebook aka @thefullpint on Twitter going to Dark Lord Day 2010
For the past few years, I have been memorized with Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout. For those who haven’t tried it, think of something like Stone Imperial Russian Stout or Old Rasputin, bumped up about two to three more levels in terms of body, bold flavor and much deserved hype. As icing on the cake, the bottle art is out of this world, and is dipped in a different color of wax each year for cellaring purposes. After trying it for the first time in 2008, I bought into this hype.
This beer is hard to get for most of the country, as it is only released once a year in Munster Indiana at Three Floyds, and not sold in any retail capacity. I was lucky enough to get a bottle via trade, and shared it with the TFP team. Without reading my tasting notes, I fondly remember a very thick, roasty chocolaty brew that warmed me up quickly.
Rather than hounding the trading forum at Ratebeer in May, I decided to make a go for Dark Lord Day 2010 in Indiana on April 24. I have in laws who live 3 miles away, and I am down for the legendary craziness that I have heard about. From what I have gathered, folks line up for miles rain, snow or shine and celebrate with impromptu beer tastings until they are able to buy a 22 oz. bottle of Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout.
With Three Floyds being so small, you can never tell what the limit will be on the beer. Prior years, the bottle has gone for $15.00 a piece, and trades very well online. I have also heard people get a bit rowdy, so I will have to work out a bit and sharpen up on my ground and pound game. (Joking, this is not what craft beer is about). As we get closer to the event, please check back for some exciting news on Dark Lord Day 2010, including a possible Golden Ticket Giveaway. Hopefully I can bring some California goodies to share while waiting in line. Needless to say, I am super stoked. Please hit us up on comment, facebook or twitter and let us know if you will be there, we’d love to meet you!
