The Bruery Sour in The Rye
From The Bruery – This American Wile Rye Ale was brewed with a substantial portion of rye malt, and the spicy character of the grain asserts itself with clove and pepper in the aroma and flavor. Add in sour cherry notes from our special blend of micro-organisms and vanilla from the red wine barrels and you’ve got a mouthful!
The Bruery – Sour in The Rye – On draft, poured at the source into a goblet. 10% abv.
Appearance: Pours a papaya red with a line of white foam at the top.. The body is rather cloudy, and looks almost like a juice cocktail.
Aroma: Wine and grape skins and funky yeast. I did not get much wood in the aroma, although the beer felt like it was in the mid 40’s temperature wise.
Taste: Sour fruit, some woodiness and rye malt. I think the wood and the rye lent the beer bitterness, which balanced out nicely with the sour.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and puckering.
Overall: Not extremely sour and funky, really quite enjoyable and balanced.
