From The Bruery – The third verse of our “Twelve Beers of Christmas” saga incorporates vinous and oaky notes into a bold and spicy dark ale. Happy Holidays! 75% Belgian-Style Dark Ale,25% Ale Aged in French Oak Barrels.
The Bruery – The Bruery 3 French Hens – 750 ml bottle poured into a goblet. 10% abv.
Appearance: Pours an iced tea brown with a thin froth cap.
Aroma: Grassy woodsy herbal aroma at first, then oak and nuts along with some sweet toasted malts.
Taste: Oak, vinous twang, nuts, burnt sugar and toast.
Mouthfeel: Thin to medium bodied, medium carbonation, slightly creamy.
Overall: Compared to the last two “Days of Christmas” this is far more balanced, and pretty complex. The oak comes through nicely, but there isn’t one element that outdoes another with this beer. I hate to sound like a hater, but I don’t see this making it to 12 drummers drumming. I perceive it as having far less sugar than the other two, which makes for great drinking now, but not for 8 or 9 years of cellaring.
