Review – Wachusett Winter Ale
Wachusett Winter Ale
abv unknown
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a room temperature pint glass.
Appearance
Clear and bright orange-red color with clumpy white head. This beer left a good amount of lace rings after each new sip.
Aroma
Some yeasty characteristics with smells of fresh baked dinner rolls or crispy toast. Also some sweet fruit aromas lingering within.
Taste
Sweet caramel and even sweeter fruit flavors. Deeper, I found some pleasant roasted malt flavors that gave a savory balance with the sweets.
Mouthfeel
Excellent carbonation with a razor sharp, clean feeling throughout my mouth. Some would say this style is a little rough around the edges but I found it very refreshing from the boring, smooth easy drinkers.
Overall
What I liked most about this beer is that it is not some over-spiced winter beer. While these winter types may have become more popular in recent times, I am sure glad that Wachusett came out with this traditional Scotch Ale. Just pure and wholesome beer ingredients with no fuss make this an easy winter favorite.
