Review: Victory Storm King Imperial Stout
Victory Brewing Storm King Imperial Stout. Enjoy March 22, 2001 stamp. 12 oz bottle. Found at Whole Foods Pasadena. Poured into a Stone Imperial Russian goblet.
Appearance: Dark as night. No light gets through. A 1/16 inch muddy brown trim tops it off, with a small patch of head in the middle. Each sips leaves a sparky, thin lace.
Aroma: Licorice and dark, tart cherries. Slight notes of acidic coffee as well.
Taste: Dark malts, roasted coffee, dark chocolates with liquor in the middle for the initial taste. After taste has a slight black licorice flavor, and a spicy hop note.
Mouthfeel: Storm King coats your mouth like a thick red wine. The spicy hop note prickles the inside of your mouth. If its not the hops, it must be the abv.
Drinkability: A very smooth, not so bitter high alcohol beer. Many regard this as the best American Imperial Stout. I like it better than Old Rasputin, but I am partial to Stone Russian Imperial Stout. This should be enjoyed after dinner, possibly with some cake.
