Review – Victory Prima Pils
Victory Brewing Company Prima Pils
5.3% abv
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a room temperature Sam Adams beer glass.
Appearance
Extremely light golden color with superb clarity and hints of pale yellows. This Pilsener is like looking through a yellow-stained piece of glass with no cloudiness but lots of carbonation bubbles rising to the surface, creating a uniform and sturdy 1 inch head.
Aroma
Not a very strong smell at all. Earthy and malty smells coupled with the smell of alcohol. I could definitely smell the whole flower hops that were used.
Taste
Very crisp and tart. Some nutty characteristics linger in the background but this Pilsener is mostly smooth and easy to drink. Very sharp taste with a strange and unique skunky aftertaste, but not in a bad way.
Mouthfeel
Excellent carbonation rounds out the bitterness from the hops and the sweetness of the malt just right. The aforementioned bubbles added to the light qualities of this beer, creating an airy yet smooth drink ability.
Overall
As an “ale guy,” I found this lager to be very tasty. I like many Victory brews but never had the opportunity to try their award-winning Prima Pils until now. I guess the saying is true that good things come to those who wait. I bought some of the Pils at my local brew store and just know I will be buying more. The light body and easy drink ability are two of the main things I look for in a spring/summer beer and Prima delivers on both.
