Review – Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout
Does this beer live up to its hype? Any other beer website has made this the must have beer. People stand in line at Three Floyds in Munster Indiana to get their hands on this. I was lucky enough to get it in a trade, and I held my own “TheFullPint.com Dark Lord Day” with the rest of the crew.
From Three Floyds: A Demonic Imperial Russian stout brewed with INTELLIGENTSIA coffee, vanilla, and molasses. NOW AVAILABLE in bottles!!! DarkLord is only available once a year at DarkLord Day April 26th -2008 ThreeFloydsBrewpub.
Three Floyds Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout 2008 – 22oz bottled sealed in black wax, poured into a taster sized glass. 13% abv.
Appearance: Super dark midnight brown with 1/4 inch fuzzy brown head.
Aroma: Brownie mix and nose tickling alcohol.
Taste: Dark chocolate, milk chocolate truffles. Bourbon and tart cherries. When it gets wamer, a lot of vanilla comes out. Trust me, I could find more and more flavors in this, given more of a supply.
Mouthfeel: Gooey.
Overall: Awesome, complex, strong, and definitely worth the hype.

DLD last year was insane. We were lucky enough to get there on time since we woke up hungover and had an hour drive to get there which we didnt realize at the time but put us into the next time zone so we gained that hour back! We still had a long wait though for being there about 30 minutes before they opened we waited for almost 4 hours before we got our bottles. Time did fly, just remember to bring plenty of beer into the line! It was great meeting all the people surrounding you in line and sharing your stuff with them. What a great day!

08′ Darklord day had different styles on tap but not for sale. There was a barrel aged Darklord and a Vanilla Bean Darklord. That may have been barrel aged as well.
We live 5 minutes away and were fortunate that there were actually left over’s on tap the following day. Good excuse to stay longer and drink more.
Cheers!
