Review – The Lost Abbey Serpent Stout
I was not able to make the release event for The Lost Abbey Serpent Stout, at their head quarters in San Marcos, CA. Getting my hands on one was going to be tricky. Luckily Beer Guru Stan from Lone Hill Liquor, in Glendora, CA had a few on hand for purchase. I was able to try this on tap a month ago, at the source, but was in a hoppy mood that day. Here is the review!
The Lost Abbey Serpent Stout – 750 ml bottle, corked and caged poured into a Stone IRS glass – 11% abv.
Appearance:
Midnight brown with a dark tan, sparkely head. Bubbles like a Belgian ale.
Aroma:
Coffee, chocolate, bourbon, and sweet pipe tobacco.
Taste:
Black Forrest Cake sans the frosting! Semi-sweet chocolate and bourbon.
Mouthfeel:
Silky and chocolaty. Leaves a roasted coffee aftertaste on your tongue particularly.
Overall:
Incredibly impressed with the bottled version of Serpent Stout. It might be the best Imperial Stout I have had. I hope Lost Abbey does even more fun things with this recipe with their fun facility full of barrels. I put this in front of Angel’s Share hands down.
