Review – Terrapin Rye Pale Ale
Terrapin Beer Co’s Rye Pale Ale
12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass. 5.3% abv. Best Enjoyed Before Date: 7/28/2008, and enjoyed on 7/18/2008.
Appearance: Light golden orange with a very skinny head.
Aroma: Bready malts and grassy/piney hops.
Taste: A very balanced pale ale for the most part, although I think the hops have a slight edge. The malt is slighly sweet and the hops are slightly bitter. There is a lot going on grain wise, but I cannot pin point it.
Mouthfeel: Thin and thirst quenching. A little bit of bitterness is left on the back of the tongue, but not overbearing.
Overall: A balanced, highly drinkable pale ale. I would love to try this on tap. I really am not sure if I noticed the rye malts in particular, but I can say this was a unique pale ale, in that I have never tasted one like it before. After reading more about it, I am amazed it has 5 different hops and 5 different malts. The end result is soooo smooth.
