Review – Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA
Speak Easy Ales and Lagers – Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA – Enjoyed right out of the cold 12 ounce bottle (although I did pour some into a plastic cup for the appearance rating below). 6.5% abv
Appearance
Pale golden color with minimal head. Left only a little bit of lace on the plastic cup.
Aroma
Strong hop profile with a rich, fragrant nose. Some fruity notes fluttered about but were always overpowered by the Northwestern American hops.
Taste
A little dry but with a nice crisp finish. Good balance between the abundance of hops and the sturdy backbone of the malts used.
Mouthfeel
Sticky and gooey from the dry-hopping.
Overall
This is a decent IPA in my book. Although I think it could have been more powerful in ABV, I was happy to be drinking this beer. My first experience with this beer was at a Foo Fighters concert last month in San Francisco, CA. It was open bar and they had only the regular domestics and this IPA from Speakeasy. I was so happy and I pounded them all night. When I was leaving the show, I tipped the bartender handsomely and he slipped me 3 more unopened bottles to take back to my hotel room and enjoy. It was a great night!

“I think it could have been more powerful in ABV”
You need to get your hands on a Double Daddy. An IIPA that weighs in at 9,5% ABV.
