Review – Spaten Oktoberfestbier Ur-Märzen
From Spaten USA: Spaten Oktoberfest Beer, created in 1872, is the world’s first Oktoberfest beer, brewed for the greatest folk festival in the world. Every year, over and over again, countless Oktoberfest visitors share their enthusiasm about this beer.
Spaten Oktoberfestbier Ur-Märzen – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 5.9% abv.
Appearance: A dark yellow or pale orange. Almost completely translucent, almost zero head with an agressive pour.
Aroma: Pale and carmel malts, small whiff of hop sice as well.
Taste: Bitter German hops, hints of bready and sweet malts, finishes witha slight fruity twang. Like taking a bite out of a pear or apple.
Mouthfeel: Crisp and refreshing.
Overall: A great session beer. I was shocked this wasn’t skunked, as it has been sitting unrefridgerated at Trader Joes. Not my most favorite Oktoberfest Beer, but I’ll remember this as a nice Germany swilly type session beer.
