Review – Smithwick’s Irish Ale
From Diago Brewing (Also Brewers of Guinness and Harp) – Smithwick’s is produced using the finest hops and special roasted, malted barley. In 1998 a new enhanced draught product with improved head retention was launched along with redesigned glassware.
Diago Brewing, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland- Smithwick’s Irish Ale – 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 5% abv.
Appearance: Poured a dark, clear amber with a creamy head that subsided to 1/4 inch.
Aroma: Bready and sweet malts, not to bready or sweet.
Taste: Caramel sweetness, a little bit of bread crust and a nice small layer of hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and lingering.
Overall: A hardy, yet sessionable beer. A nice spicy finish that balances the sweetness that starts it out.
