Review – Schlafly Reserve Imperial Stout
From the Saint Louis Brewery – A roasty, rich and malty Imperial Stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is a perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold-weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert (especially chocolate).
The Saint Louis Brewery – Schlafly Reserve Imperial Stout Aged in Bourbon Barrels – 750 ml bottle poured into a goblet. 10% abv
Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with swirls of white throughout and a pin stripe of tan at the top.
Aroma: Bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, licorice, and roasty notes.
Taste: Hershey’s chocolate syrup, vanilla, light amounts of bourbon, and a nice woody sweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Silky smooth, very moderate carbonation.
Overall: A well made, balanced yet bold beer. Amazing texture and not overpowering with wood or bourbon.
