Review – Sam Adams Weizenbock
Samuel Adams Longshot Weizenbock (by Rodney Kibzey)
7.2% abv
Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a chilled pint glass.
Appearance
Deep and dark is the best way to describe the color of this beer. With subtle hints of amber, this opaque brown bock held good head retention with a small amount of lace.
Aroma
Very rich fruity smell with a hint of clove.
Taste
This beer is a little tangy and has a somewhat sour aftertaste. Bitter, oily hop notes do not overpower the sweetness from the malt.
Mouthfeel
This beer is very carbonated and feels creamy and sudsy in my mouth.
Overall
I am a little disappointed that this brew won Sam Adam’s Longshot Homebrew contest. Not a big fan of bocks, I actually enjoyed this beer but felt that it was too plain to be showcased by Sammy. The spices were not overwhelming but rather quite pleasant but the overall taste lacked something.
