Review – Odell Double Pilsner
Odell Brewing Co. Just won the silver medal at the World Beer Cup in the category of Strong Ale/Lager for their Double Pilsner. This Double Pilsner is part of their Single Batch Series, using their 5 barrel brewing system. Odell makes a fine brew, and the care they put into brewing their beer shows.
Odell Brewing Single Batch Series Double Pilsner – 8.1% abv poured into a pint glass.
Appearance:
See through golden straw color, bubbles glinding to the top, half of a pin stripe for a head.
Aroma:
Bread, must, and classic lager.
Taste:
Syrupy skunked macro lager, but in a good way =-) . The corn and grains I smell bring out some bready sweetness. Not too bitter.
Mouthfeel:
Thick and syrupy.
Overall:
I am torn on this brew. It is a kicked up pilsner. I am not a fan of pilsners, but Odell nailed the style, then took it to a whole ‘nother level. I think it would be a fun trick to have a 12 pack on hand, and let a Coors Light type fall in love, then fall over!
