Review – Mission IPA
From Mission Brewery in San Diego, CA – Our India Pale Ale exhibits a complex hop aroma, largely due to the generous usage of Cascade and Centennial hops, as well as a subtle malt character from the various malts used to achieve the wonderful balance exhibited in a world-class IPA. San Diego has become world renown for the wonderful and flavorful beers produced here – and India Pale Ales are no exception. Our national award winning interpretation of the style reflects both the history of IPA and the American variation of this distinct beverage. We hope you enjoy it!
Mission Brewery – Mission IPA – 22 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. 6.8% abv. Purchased at Whole Foods Beverly Hills, CA.
Appearance: Pours a clear amber with a dense 1/4 inch cream colored head. Leaves a little bit of lacing on the pint glass.
Aroma: Of note, I got a huge aroma presence just opening the bottle. Starts and ends with a large burst of orange, pineapple, and mango.
Taste: Citrus fruits orange and lemon, and a noticeable malty presence mixing caramel and burnt sugar flavors. Ends almost chocolately and moderately bitter.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, not thin, but not really heavy and thick.
Overall: A cool twist on the San Diego IPA. I thought this beer would be predictable, and good, but I was wrong about the first part. The malt bill makes this beer special.
