Review – Legacy Brewing Hoptimus Prime Double IPA
Legacy Brewing Hoptimus Prime Double IPA
9.0% abv
Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a chilled pint glass.
Appearance
Shimmering pale orange, letting good light through the glass. Some shades of shiny brass or copper with big fluffy clouds of off-white foam and lace. There is also noticeable sediment floating around in the glass.
Aroma
Hops, hops and more hops! The hop explosion of this beer was just what I look for in a DIPA. Piney, grassy and earthy all describe the blast of floral scents coming from this brew.
Taste
Very bitter hop profile with a medium body. The sour flavor hits first with a nice snippy bite that I love in an hopped-up beer. Then the resiney, citrus notes appear and it finishes with more bitterness from the hop oils.
Mouthfeel
Very carbonated with lots big, gassy bubbles. Just the slightest bit of alcohol burn in the throat but you have to look for it behind the overwhelming hop profile.
Overall
I picked up a 22 ounce bottle of Hoptimus Prime at my local brew store yesterday. My friend and I were reading the local brewery rag and saw an ad for this beer and thought it was clever marketing and that we had to try it. We both were surprised at how “big” this beer was and I immediately fell in love. I looked for HP in six packs but didn’t see any and this was the last bottle in the 22 ounce size. I may have to call the store and ask them to order more to fill my hop cravings.

Does the bottle transform into a beer truck when empty? 🙂 Catchy name.
