Review – Lagunitas Gnarleywine 2008
Lagunitas Gnarleywine 2008 – 22oz Bottle served in Stone Imperial Russian Stout Glass 9.1% abv.
Appearance:
Reddish copper letting a bit of light through. Leaves 3/4 inch white head and spotty lacing.
Aroma:
Apple cider and cinnamon, and various other spices that would go good with cider.
Taste:
Lightly roasted malts, brown and maple sugar. Hints of apple and pear. The warmer it gets, the more spicy it gets.
Mouthfeel:
A tad sticky, but not too thick. Coats your mouth with all the pleasant taste characteristics listed. A slight sting of alcohol is present as well.
Overall:
A top notch barleywine style ale. This is on par with any of my favorites from this style. I look forward to saving one for a year or more, and seeing where it goes. Thank you Lagunitas for another great beer.
